Does ground rent burn a hole in your pocket?
After disputing with the company that owns the building of the flat i own, eventually i paid them. Today they send me a bill asking for another £232 cos the expenses went over their budget. Why cant they budget properly in the first fcking place? And secondly, what the fck am i paying them for? My advice to peeps wanting to buy a flat with a leasehold…DONT! Its a nightmare

totally agree with you – all flats are leasehold tho and come with the same grief my advice is hang on til you can buy a house – that way at least you get to choose when to do the repairs and how much to pay for them….

Unfortunately, tenants cannot write off any expenses. This is not fair and I have gained from this over the past 17 years. It does create an incentive for someone to go out and buy their own place. Perhaps legislation will be changed to allow tax benefits to renters!
